Free Frugal Video Poker Software

I published Frugal Video Poker (FVP) in 2000. It was well received and critically acclaimed, as it was the first video poker software to generate strategy charts that you could play in the game. It also remains the first that not only offered a return on the charts, but allowed you to tweak them, too. No other software has done this to this day, except for Wolf Video Poker (WVP), of course.

I love a lot of the things that it did to train video poker players, and it still has some features that are not in WVP, like the slot marquee and the music. It will become obvious that it would have been redundant to have included them in the new program. It also has 3, 5, and 10 multiplay games, which could not go into WVP because of licensing issues.

It's a bit outdated as far as look and style, as it was created for Windows 95, and it was also a first effort. However, there is still a lot that you can learn from it. I am now offering Frugal for free, hoping that you might purchase one of the WVP programs in the future.

It is the same program that sold for $39.99. I put unobtrusive splash screens at the beginning and end of the program, and now use a 32 bit installer that will save you some grief with certain operating systems. I also changed the copyright and licensing notices.

Minimum Requirements

  • Pentium 100MHZ, 8 MB RAM
  • SVGA 640 X 480 @ 256 Colors

DirectX is no longer supplied with the program, but it is easily found on the web. Follow this link or do a search...

The help format is now obsolete in newer Windows releases (Winhlp32.exe and Winhelp.exe). However, Microsoft still offers downloads that will open the help file. If you cannot open the help file in the game, the following link will guide you to downloads appropriate for your system...

Here is the link for Free FVP (about 3.5 MB)...

If you already own a copy of Frugal Video Poker, and just need the last update, here it is...
Version 1.1.0.10
...if you do not have this version, then you should update.

I do hope you enjoy Frugal Video Poker. I still highly suggest that you also download the latest full-featured demo of Wolf Video Poker and see all the new features. I'm sure you will agree that it is the best video poker training software for players on the market today, bar none.
